Exploring the 1989 Razorback: A Nostalgic Look at a Futuristic Cobra Vehicle

Story by Mitchell Smith
Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at the 1989 G. I. Joe Iron Grenadiers Razorback. For those who loved the realistic military vehicles, this one probably wasn’t on your wish list. It looks much more like a moon rover, but it is really cool especially if you had one as a kid like I did. It is futuristic looking and can roll over some tough terrain. Hasbro was always trying to add a lot of moving features to vehicles as well as having them split into separate vehicles, so I thought this was a lot of fun back in the day, as the middle gun turret rises up for a wider range of fire.
Looking back my brothers and I got about 7 vehicles in total this year. For me this was only second place to the Crusader that year, so I think that is why I think of this as more of a space vehicle. The vehicle comes with a driver Wild Boar who is cool but didn’t really have the character development that other main Cobra villains had. The side missiles and the turret cannon are nicely proportioned and give the vehicle a nice sleek look.
There are a couple small features that are neat like the radar antenna, the back engine cover with room to store some gear, and the tow hitch. Over all this is a great vehicle and it’s the first time I have had it out in a few years. Who had this one as a kid? Where does it rank on your Cobra vehicle list? Make sure to check back for our next discussion.
